The Kenyan government reported that it had arrested a suspected Iraqi terrorist. The man was identified as Abdul Razul Ibrahim Nandool. He was spotted and detained in a market in Kenyas Garissa district (northeast Kenya). Press sources speculated that Nandool entered Kenya from Somalia. No sources (press, government, or otherwise) reported which terror groups Nandool is allegedly associated with or if he is a suspect in the August 1998 US embassy bombing in Nairobi. The arrest report suggests a couple of things. We know Kenya has increased security operations along its Somali border, and this and similar arrests of suspected militants are the results of those increased security operations. The arrest also looks like it was made on a tip, indicating either good police work or a improving intelligence cooperation in East Africa or both. (Austin Bay)
