The Ugandan Army accused Lord's Resistance Army rebels of abducting at least 50 people (mostly Sudanese refugees in the Adjumani district (520 km northwest of Kampala) and another 28 in the Lira district (350 km north of the capital) at sunset on 8 September. About 200 rebels raided Adjumani, looting shops and burning 19 huts.

The LRA claimed to have killed at least 10 Ugandan soldiers the 9th. The soldiers were traveling in a small truck carrying fuel on the Kampala - Lira road (nearly 307km North of Kampala). The Ugandan Army admitted that the LRA ambush had burnt out the truck, but countered that the rebels had only killed three soldiers and injured four others. 

This attack was the latest incident in a string of LRA ambushes. Traffic was blocked along the Kampala Gulu for five hours on the 6th, after rumors of more LRA attacks spread among the population. While lecturing 1,500 officer cadets at the School of Infantry on the 8th, President Yoweri Museveni strongly warned local newspapers to stop causing unnecessary panic among the public by misrepresenting the security situation in the country's north. - Adam Geibel
