On December 24 the Sudanese government claimed new victories in the Nuba Mountains. The Khartoum report said government forces retook the areas of Washan and Tummah (South Kordofan state) from the SPLA. On December 25 the government claimed that its troops had killed a "senior SPLA leader" when SPLA guerrillas attacked the International Organisation for Development of Southern Sahara (IODSS) compound in the Nagdiar area (Upper Nile state). The government spokesman said the IODSS is a "Sudanese NGO" running health and social programs along the Sobat River.
