Philippines: The Latest Bomb Designs from Indonesia

November22, 2006: Outside the capital, soldiers clashed with about twenty NPA rebels, leaving two dead on each side.

November 21, 2006: On Jolo Island, troops seized a terrorist camp, capturing weapons and bomb making materials. There were completed bombs, built within lunch boxes and thermos bottles. Such bombs had been seen in Indonesia, but not, until now, the Philippines, indicating that Indonesian terrorists might be involved in building the bombs, or showing Filipino terrorists how to do so. Indonesia reports that local Islamic terrorists all report that most of the key Indonesian terrorists have fled to the Philippines, and other foreign refuges.

November 17, 2006: In the south, there was a brief firefight between troops and MILF fighters protecting their boss, who is also a bandit and was about to be arrested for stealing cattle. Elsewhere in the south, twenty more MILF rebels surrendered to the government. The MILF leadership is still debating what kind of compromise they will offer in the stalemated peace talks.
