Acting on a tip from villagers, troops on Jolo raided an Abu Sayyaf camp and killed one of the groups leaders, Almujahid Susukan. There isn't much left of Abu Sayyaf, but the few dozen remaining members prefer to survive as bandits rather than surrender. This lifestyle does not make them popular with the locals, and that leads to locals talking to the police. Most Abu Sayyaf leaders have rewards on their heads. Several bands identifying themselves as Abu Sayyaf are operating in the southern Philippines, and there are frequent clashes with police and army patrols.
