A terrorist bomb went off in the island of Bali, in an area frequented by western tourists. The car bomb killed some 200 people, and wounded over 300. Bali is mostly Hindu, but there has not been much violence between Islamic radicals and the local Hindus. Bali accounts for about a quarter of Indonesia's tourism business.
In Central Sulawesi, a bomb went off outside the Philippine consulate. There were no injuries. Islamic radicals have been making such attacks against Philippine targets for over a year, apparently in protest to the war in the Philippines between the government and Moslem separatists.
