India-Pakistan: May 31, 2002

Apparently giving in to pressure from the United States, Pakistan has apparently ordered it's army and intelligence forces in Pakistani controlled Kashmir to limit their most active support of Kashmiri rebels (which mainly involves providing covering fire on Indian border guards as the rebels cross the Line of Control into Indian Kashmir.) India insists that thousands of rebels are massed on the Pakistani side of the Line of Control, waiting to try and cross. India says it has evidence that many Taliban and al Qaeda fighters have joined other Islamic radicals in Kashmir, where the radicals are left alone by the army and police.

Shelling and gun fire across the Line of Control continues, leaving soldiers and civilians dead on both sides of the border.
