 Foreign journalists are accusing UN peacekeepers of excessive violence in operations against pro-Aristide gangs. Many foreign journalists do not agree with the overthrow of former president Aristide, who was popular media because of his appealing personality and leftist politics. But Aristide also became corrupt and despotic, which is why he was overthrown by a popular uprising. But that has not diminished his support among much of the foreign press, and Aristide's remaining supporters are trying to exploit it.
