The AUC has offered to disarm 6,000 of its 18,000 gunmen by the end of the year. About a thousand have disarmed so far. The anti-leftist AUC sees the government campaign against rebel militias as succeeding. This means that the AUC, originally organized to fighting against the FARC and ELN gunmen, is no longer needed. But many members of the AUC have gotten involved in the drug trade, which is how all the rebel militias have supported themselves for decades.
