In the southwest, Afghan police arrested four Taliban members, including a former deputy education minister in the Taliban government.

In the northwest, over a hundred men attacked a government compound near the Turkmenistan border. The attack was defeated, and eight of the attackers were captured. These men admitted they were paid by a former Taliban leader to make the attack. Five soldiers (actually, militia in the pay of the local governor) were killed, as well as two of the attackers.

In the south, Operation Valiant Strike continued. A force of a thousand US and Romanian troops have searched over a hundred compounds and found four illegal weapons caches. Today, four more suspected Taliban members were arrested.
