Last Fall, year, someone hacked into the Ft Campbell, Kentucky, computer network. The army isnt saying who did it, or even if they know. When the penetration was discovered, army investigators let it continue for at least a few weeks in order to try and track down who was responsible. The army wont say if they found the culprits, but it is known that the hackers were inside the system, undetected, for several months. The Department of Defense has earlier said that hackers located in China, Brazil and Lithuania were caught trying to get into American military networks. The Pentagon is also aware that many hobbyist hackers have now gone commercial, offering to perform illegal hacking chores for money. 

Ft Campbell is the home base of the 101st Airborne division (which is actually a helicopter heavy "airmobile" division). The hackers had access to everything that was going on in the division, except for classified networks (which are encrypted.). The army is now spending $30 million to upgrade the computer networks at Ft Campbell, and using the experience to increase computer security at Ft. Campbell and other army bases.
