British Army To Upgrade Lynx- Unable to afford new aircraft, the British Army is expected to spend $1.45 billion upgrading its Lynx scout/attack helicopter fleet. Based on the technology of the Super Lynx (a modernized design created for export), the upgrade includes new engines (Rolls-Royce Honeywell CTS800s) which will provide 40% more power under the most demanding (hot weather, high altitude) conditions. Those Lynx now assigned to the attack role (being taken over by Apache) will be used for command, medevac, or other missions. The Royal Navy may upgrade 57 of its Lynx to the Super Lynx standard, giving the British military a common helicopter.--Stephen V Cole
