The fifth German Naval air wing rotation arrived in Mombassa, Kenya to monitor security in the Horn of Africa. From their base at the Moi International Airport, Mombassa, the Germans will fly several nine-hour long sorties each week over Somalia to monitor maritime movements. In February, the Germans celebrated their 200th operational flight over the Horn of Africa. 

The 150 seamen from Nordholz Airbase will stay for three months, during which they will also take part in community projects at Wema Children's Center in Mombassa. Previous German contingents sunk a borehole, painted walls at the institution and built a visitor shed for visitors, while the new group will install electricity in the dining hall (among other projects). 

In Djibouti, elements from the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable) are leaving the Allied base at Camp Lemonier. Each of the Battalion Landing Team 2/2's three companies spent a little more than a month there on live-fire ranges, helicopter operations and assorted combat training rehearsals (as well as providing security for the camp). 

Considerable resources have been expended to improve conditions at Camp Lemonier. Over 300 local construction personnel currently work in the camp each day and about 300 day-workers are also employed in the daily operation of the camp, which supports 1,300 Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa servicemen. - Adam Geibel
