One suggestion for improved airliner security is to have the passenger seats face backwards. Engineers have been trying to sell the airlines on this idea for decades as it reduces injuries during minor crashes and hard landings. If the passengers face backwards, it is harder for them to watch the cockpit door looking for a chance to rush it. Sky Marshals now have to sit at the rear of the plane so they can see as many passengers as possible, and from that position they cannot get between the hijackers and the cockpit.--Stephen V Cole
