The arrival of 28 more al Qaeda and Taliban suspects at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, on 18 June has brought the number of prisoners there to 564. As the prison has 612 cells, there is room for 48 more. US military forces are holding dozens of suspects at several locations in Afghanistan. The Pentagon has said that US troops will have to stay in Afghanistan at least another year to finish the job of destroying the al Qaeda infrastructure.--Stephen V Cole
