The FAA has decided not to avail itself of an option included in newly-passed legislation. The new law calling for the hiring of thousands of new sky marshals allowed the FAA to waive its normal age limit (no one over 40 can apply) in the case of law enforcement officers or military veterans. The FAA has refused to grant waivers for military veterans (even MPs) but is granting the waivers for those with civilian police experience.--Stephen V Cole
