Uganda: March 10, 2002

Archives

Uganda and Sudan signed a protocol in early March, under which Ugandan soldiers can hunt for LRA rebels inside Sudan. The first protocol was signed in Khartoum on 5 March and amended on 10 March. The LRA were believed to still be holding about 6,000 child captives abducted from northern Uganda. Meanwhile, a five-man Sudanese military team arrived in the country over the weekend to oversee UPDF operations against the rebels. Since Khartoum has accused Kampala of supporting the SPLA, how does not bode well for Sudan's southern rebels. - Adam Geibel
