Islamic radicals in the south responded to the rain of folded birds by trying to set off three bombs (one failed) and firing on police and civilians. There are not many violent Islamic radicals in the south, but the government fears that the attacks will spread to tourist areas and threaten an industry that accounts for over five percent of the GDP.
