The violence continues in Darfur, with daily raids by pro-government gunmen on non-Arab Sudanese villagers and refugees.
March 23, 2006: Chadian troops crossed the Sudanese border to attack Chadian rebels and their camps.
March 20, 2006: UN peacekeepers in the south, near the Congo border, came under fire, and shot back, killing three gunmen. The dead men were thought to be Ugandan rebels of the LRA (Lord's Resistance Army). About a hundred of the rebel gunmen fired on the UN troops, while a nearby village and relief agency facility were looted. There are 10,000 UN troops in the south, monitoring a peace deal between the government and southern rebels.
March 17, 2006: The government accuses Ethiopia of violating an agreement, and sending troops across the border, to chase Sudanese out of their villages.
March 16, 2006: Gunmen attacked the compound of a UN relief agency in the south, killing one and wounding another.
