Despite repeated assertions that it wants to resolve the Darfur crisis, the government of Sudan seems no closer to cooperating with international organizations and relief agencies than before. On May 30th two officials of Doctors-without-Borders, (DWB) including Paul Foreman, the senior DWB official in the country, were arrested on charges of "crimes against the state," while UN employees have been subject to considerable harassment. Both the UN and DWB have charged that forces supporting the government have committed widespread rape and massacre in Darfur, and the government is trying hard to suppress the news.
