The ethnic cleansing, raiding and murders continue in the western Darfur region. The government continues to be successful in keeping most journalists out of the area. Therefore, the death and destruction gets little notice. But reports from aid workers, and satellite photos (commercial and government), indicate that hundreds of villages have been burned down and their population killed or, more usually, driven away. Foreign nations are trying to pressure the government to allow more food and medical aid for the refugees, and more journalists, into Darfur. But the government is reluctant to do so. While the government has says it is moving to force the Sudanese Arab gunmen to stop their raids, this has apparently not happened. The government seems to feel that the support of the Arab tribes is more important than a bad image overseas.
