The situation continues to grow worse. The government says it will allow relief operations for nearly a million refugees in Darfur (western Sudan), but police and border guards continue to restrict the movement of aid groups and trucks carrying supplies. The army continues to search for and attack bands of rebels, and the government supported militias continue their raids on non-Arab tribes in the area. The government insists that foreign media are exaggerating the situation, but those reporters and aid workers who are able to get into the area, or fly over it, keep reporting empty villages, stolen herds and dead bodies.
