: The Darfur fighting has had an effect on the peace negotiations in south Sudan between the Sudan government and the SPLA. An SPLA representative at the peace talks said a peace settlement in the south would be very unstable if war continued elsewhere in Sudan. He was specifically referring to Darfur. Heres the wire service quote: "If they (the Sudan government) continue killing people (ie,, in Darfur) there will be no point in reaching an agreement ...what we want is not a peaceful graveyard, we want peace as an opportunity for people to live as human beings."
