An NGO source reported that 374 slaves freed from slavery in northern Sudan had returned to the Dinka town of Warawar, in south Sudan. The NGO, Christian Solidarity International, said that the slaves had been brought south from a Sudan government run camp. The Sudan government had agreed to let the convoy pass through after negotiations that involved the NGOs and the UN. The report did not give specifics about how these slaves were located and freed. Typically, western organizations provide funds to buy back the slaves. The Sudan government denies the charge of slavery, though occasionally admitting that refugees are abducted by some militia groups and individuals.
