Rebels in Sudans western Darfur region have struck back at the Sudanese military offensive in the region. As StrategyPage has noted, the Sudan military has driven at least 135,000 refugees into Chad and displaced up to another half million people inside Sudan. The Sudan Liberation Army attacked a government truck convoy and claims to have killed 150 government soldiers out of a battalion of 700 Sudanese troops. The battle took placed outside of the town of Khazan Gadid (southern Darfur area). One report said the rebel force had 200 fighters who struck from ambush. If this report is accurate, this is a tactical victory for the rebels. That being noted, the governments cruel scorched earth strategy of driving people from their homes and leveling villages has put pressure on the rebel groups.
