Sudan's army said Dafur rebels had kidnapped an Air Force general, while the local governor said army reinforcements were on their way to help quash the insurgency. Sudanese officials brought journalists to Al-Fasher to prove that the government had regained control of the town, which is about 1,400 km west of the capital. 

Representatives from the Sudanese government and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement/Army (SPLM/A) reiterated their full commitment to allowing humanitarian access to all needy areas throughout Sudan. The UN had requested to send a barge convoy to deliver urgently needed food supplies to the Kosti, Malakal, Bor and Juba regions along the river, by 12 May.
