The death toll for the last month is over 200, and both sides are talking to resuming large scale military operations. The Nordic peace monitors are warning that neither side could win, but both sides are unsure of that.
May 14, 2006: Six more people died in the northeast, including at least one soldier. The LTTE said they would go back to war if the navy continued to block the smuggling of weapons from India, and other locations, to Sri Lanka.
May 13, 2006: At least 13 civilians were killed in the northeast. Both sides accuse the other of doing it.
May 11, 2006: The navy lost a patrol boat and 17 sailors, while destroying four LTTE boats and killing fifty rebels. The LTTE attack boats were after a troop transport, carrying over 700 soldiers. Noting the sharp increase of fighting at sea, Nordic truce monitors have suspended their operations at sea.
May 7, 2006: At least 30 LTTE fighters were killed in battles between LTTE factions. The fighting took place in the north and east.
