Sri Lankan foreign minister, Lakshman Kadirgamar, was assassinated, apparently by LTTE killers. The LTTE had long threatened Kadirgamar, because he was a Tamil who was vehemently anti-LTTE. Many Tamils are anti-LTTE, and they have often suffered for it. Kadirgamar was very successful in getting the LTTE labeled a  terrorist nation in many foreign countries where LTTE leaders and supporters were in exile, and had raised money for the cause.
