Aid workers accused the LTTE of recruiting teenagers orphaned by the tidal waves. The LTTE says it is just taking care of orphans. Both sides are probably right. The LTTE is upset at the military effect of the tidal waves. The disaster apparently killed hundreds of LTTE fighters and destroyed much weapons and equipment. The LTTE had been building up its military power, as had the army, and now the LTTE had suddenly fallen far behind.
