Another Tamil politician was murdered in eastern Sri Lanka. The dead man was a Tamil who opposed violence. Such Tamil leaders have been under increasing attack by rebel death squads, although the rebels deny it. This is the fourth assassination in the last two weeks. The government has accused the rebels of murdering at least twenty political opponents since the ceasefire took hold in February of 2002. The police search for the death squads has raised tensions in Tamil areas, especially in eastern Sri Lanka.
