Although the two sides have not begun to disarm, the ceasefire is holding and the peace talks are making progress. The rebels have dropped their long held demand for a separate state. There has been a small prisoner exchange (20 men) and the incidents of violence have been very rare. The US has sent anti-terrorist and demining experts. The parliamentary opposition to a peace deal have agreed to been convinced to change their minds.
