Tamil rebels aren't the only source of terror and death Sri Lankans have to worry about. In the last eleven years, more people have moved into areas formerly dominated by Sri Lanka's 3,500 wild elephants. As a result, in that period, 350 people have been killed by elephants, while 1,400 elephants have been slain. The situation has gotten so bad that heavily armed police have been assigned to patrol villages most threatened by angry elephants.
