  In a night attack, the army recaptured eight square kilometers of territory in Jaffna. Troops also took control of another 2.5 kilometers of the strategic A-9 highway in Jaffna. In the last week, the army has lost 54 soldiers killed. Some 52 rebels have died. The army offensive is pushing toward the rebel held army at Elephant Pass, at the neck of land that connects Jaffna peninsula to the rest of the island.
