Security forces killed five more LTTE suicide bombers. The five had been cornered in a building by police. Four detonated their explosives, killing themselves. A fifth was shot dead by police before he could detonate his bomb. This man was later found to have a sophisticated electronic device that would automatically detonate to prevent the bomber from being captured. This was the first time such a device was encountered in the LTTE arsenal. When bombers are taken alive, or dead with an unexploded bomb, it is easier for the police to identify the bomber and track down those who helped him. The death toll for this latest LTTE suicide bombing is 28 dead and over 70 injured. The bombers were also found to have seven landmines and many meters of detonator cord, indicating that they planned to attack a convoy of government officials.
