November 27; The LTTE has offered to hold peace talks in a neutral site. At the same time, the LTTE doubted that there could be a peaceful end to the war in Sri Lanka.

November 24; Artillery duels between the army and LTTE gunners continued in the north. Over a hundred people on both sides have died in the last two days. The government ordered it's troops to move away from the 17th century Catholic shrine in Madhu. Some 40 civilians taking refuge in the church complex have been killed, and over 60 injured, by LTTE shelling in the last week. The Red Cross run a refugee camp in the area, but that did not stop the LTTE from shelling near the camp to hit government troops. With national elections coming up, the recent losses to the LTTE are a major issue and may prompt a new government. It took the army nineteen months and 3,600 dead to capture the territory they lost in a week recently.
November 22; Government troops have withdrawn from the 240 acre Madhu Catholic church compound in the north, in order to encourage the LTTE to stop shelling the refugees assembled there. The 450 year old church is a religious shrine for the Catholic minority on the island..
