Troops intercepted some 20 LTTE fighters, who fled when fired upon. The government thinks this LTTE unit was on its way to commit another massacre of Sri Lankan civilians. Apparently feeling the pressure from constant Sri Lankan army offensives, the LTTE have now called for international mediation to settle the 20 year old conflict.

September 28; Several encounters resulted in four soldiers and sixteen LTTE fighters dead.
September 27; Four navy gun goats came across over a dozen LTTE boats attacking a 14,000 ton Chinese freighter off the Sri Lankan coast. Such piracy is not uncommon. LTTE gunfire had already disabled the Chinese ships engines. The navy drove off the LTTE and towed the Chinese ship into port for repairs. None of the 32 man crew on the Chinese boat were injured.
September 26; In several incidents, 21 people died from LTTE violence. A bus bombing killed one and wounded thirty, most of them critically. Elsewhere, two government troops and 17 LTTE fighters died.
September 24; LTTE fighters ambushed an army convoy, killing eighteen. Elsewhere, a dozen people died because of LTTE violence.
