On November 5 FDD rebels took 80 boys hostage in Ruyigi province. Reports from Burundi said the FDD intended to make the children (ages 11 to 16) serve as soldiers. On November 9 a similar report came from Kayanza province where the high school in Musema was raided by the FDD and between 50 and 100" boys were kidnapped. The FDD also reportedly burned the school. On November 10, a high school administrator said that around 100 of the boys the had escaped from the FDD as the Burundian Army closed in on the rebel group. Other reports suggested, however, the FDD still had almost 200 boys and were taking them to the Kibira forest, which serves as an FDD base area.
