The Burundian government reported that on July 6 FDD rebels attacked the town of Rumonge and killed two civilians. Six rebels died in the attack. The FDD unit managed to steal 50 cows and moved them to the town of Vugizo. The FDD also attacked the town of Kizuka. One rebel was reportedly killed. One of the government reports said that Rumonge has a militia force of 3000 men protecting it. On July 13 FDD Hutu rebels attacked the town of Kibago. The guerrillas killed five civilians, wounded eight, and stole 14 head of cattle. The Burundian government claimed the FDD unit entered Burundi from Tanzania. On July 14, western press sources reported that Burundian Army soldiers killed ten civilians in Nyambuye (a suburb of Bujumbura). The ten were killed in a reprisal raid. Apparently, a Burundian Army soldier was shot and killed in the suburb July 12 in an ambush.
