President Putin fired his prime minister and many other senior officials, showing displeasure at the continuing ineptness at reforming the Russian government. While some worry that Putin is bringing back the police state, most Russians are more concerned with corruption and lack of economic opportunities. The economy has been growing the past past few years mainly because of the high price of oil, not because corrupt officials have been arrested and archaic economic laws and regulations still remain on the books. Putin has been leaning on the militatry commanders to shape up as well, and is apparently not pleased with the poor performance turned in by the strategic missile forces last week.
