Russia is playing hardball on the $8 billion weapons debt Iraq owes them, as well as the billions in oilfield development contracts signed with the Saddam Hussein government. France is in a similar situation and is, understandably, aligned with Russia. The last time Russia and France were such close allies, it led to World War I, the end of the world as we know it and seven decades of murder and mayhem inside Russia.
