Georgia accused Russian warplanes of bombing targets in the Chechen rebel held Pankisi Gorge (in northern Georgia.) Russia said nothing, and continued to threaten invasion of Georgia if Georgia didn't suppress the Chechen rebel activity in the Pankisi Gorge.
An informal poll in Georgia showed over half of Georgians want the Chechen rebels out of the country.
The head of the Russian air force complained that many combat aircraft operating in Chechnya were grounded for want of spare parts. He said that pilots were being adequately trained and basically had to learn on the job. Search and Rescue units were also poorly equipped and trained and unable to do their job. All these problems are blamed on a lack of money and the poor quality of officers.
