Russia has convinced Tajikhistan, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstand to allow it to deploy air defense stations and units there. This gives Russia a stronger air defense system with more depth, and provides each of the countries with at least minimal defenses. It also displays Russia's growing influence in the former Soviet states, and its quickly growing influence in Central Asia.--Stephen V Cole
