Russian troops have taken the main train station in Grozny. However, a thick, seasonal fog has covered the area for the last few days. This has aided the Chechen rebels, who can now sneak in and (mostly) out of the city. The rebels, aware that they cannot match the Russians in a head to head fight, and that the Russians are very sensitive to casualties, have increased their use of small (three to a dozen) men prowling around to ambush and snipe at the Russians, as well as plant mines and booby traps. The rebels have also been pulling out of "reconquered" villages once the Russian troops show up in force. With the fog, and more hard core rebels getting out of Grozny, the guerilla tactics have increased Russian losses. The fog has also blinded the Russian air reconnaissance, and thus made their artillery and bombers much less effective.
