After the shooting stopped in the Central African Republic, President Patasse accused Chad's President Idriss Deby of destabilizing his country by supplying men and equipment to former chief of staff General Francois Bozize, whose forces attacked Bangui from 25 to 28 October. A UN humanitarian assessment mission was conducted on the morning of 2 November to some of the worst-affected northern neighborhoods of Bangui, having the CAR government announced a preliminary toll of 22 dead and 98 wounded civilians the day before.
Meanwhile, Uganda-backed Congolese rebel leader Jean Pierre Bemba has moved about 800-1,000 troops into the Central Africa Republic, to help Patesse's government defend itself against the rebels. - Adam Geibel
