Rebel forces abandoned the Central African Republic's capitol of Bangui early on the afternoon of 30 October, in the face of unequal odds they simply slipped away to the North. The 200 Libyans, back by their two Aeromacchi "bombers" and several hundred Congolese rebels, were just too much. Ironically, the rebels had been very close to their three objectives. Their units were within two blocks of the Presidential palace, they had the country's airport within range of their mortars and had taken the government radio station off the air. 

MLC forces are reportedly patrolling the rebel-controlled neighborhoods, while local civilians fear that these soldiers will start pillaging homes and businesses. Meanwhile, CAR State radio appealed to the population to return to work and resume normal life, but there is no news on the fate of Bozize's rebels. There is also still no official (nor estimated) toll of victims from the fighting in Bangui. - Adam Geibel
