Kenya reports a serious cross-border raid by Sudanese cattle rustlers. The attack occurred on December 21 and 33 Kenyan Turkana herdsmen died when the rustlers triggered the ambush. Kenyan authorities said it took the Turkanas three days to send a messenger to the nearest police station, in the town of Kamathia, which was 60 kilometers from the ambush site. The Turkanas counter-attacked an recovered their stolen cattle, but reported continued heavy exchanges of gunfire.
