: Kenya is once again reporting battles between herders and farmers. This time the fighting occurred in the coastal district of Tana River. Two nomadic herding tribes, the Wardei and Orma, fought with the farming Pokomos. The Pokomos are Bantu. The Wardei and Orma are Cushites. At least five people were killed in one clash, reportedly killed with spears. Poisoned arrows ere also used. The cause of the fighting: grazing rights and water rights. In one clash, Wardei livestock moved onto Pokomo farmland near two trading posts at Ngao and Oda. Kenya police reportedly arrested 17 people involved in the fighting.
