Farmers and ranchers in a range war? In a sense. At least two-dozen people have died in fighting between the pastoral Masai tribe and farmers in central Tanzania (Morogoro region). Most of the people who died were described as "small-holding farmers," meaning the Masai got the better of their agricultural opponents. A government spokesman told western press sources that over the past five years several land disputes have resulted in small-scale fighting. The herders want more grazing land and they "invade farms."
