Senegal's southern Casamance region has, for the last 18 years, agitated for independence. An armed organization has developed (the MFDC, the Movement of Democratic Forces of Casamance), which has bases in neighboring Guinea-Bissau (which has a long standing border dispute with Senegal.) There has not been much violence, until recently, when three were killed and twenty injured when a truck hit a landmine in the south. Senegal has recently agreed to settle it's disputes with Guinea-Bissau, if only to weaken support for the MFDC in Guinea-Bissau. The MFDC has recently had problems in Guinea-Bissau because of misbehavior by MFDC members (who, like many rebels, indulge in a little banditry on the side.)
