Troops killed at least 18 NPA rebels, 130 kilometers north of the capital. Local civilians had tipped off the troops about the presence of the communist rebels.
January 28, 2006: On Jolo, two men shot up a crowd leaving a mosque, wounding twenty. There are four Moslem rebel groups on Jolo, and only one of them has agreed to a truce.
January 27, 2006: In the south, troops intervened in a battle between two MILF groups. The Moslem rebels were fighting over control of territory. There were several deaths.
January 26, 2006: Three years ago, South Korea promised to give two second hand patrol boats. Now, after much pestering, the South Koreans say they will deliver the boats this year.
